Luminary Lantern Workshop

(3 Sessions)

Create a handcrafted ceramic lantern that comes to life with light.

In this guided three-session workshop, you’ll shape your own luminary form and carve patterns that glow when illuminated. Inspired by traditional ceramics and modern design, this process combines form, texture, and light into a unique artistic piece.

In your final session, you’ll glaze your lantern, choosing finishes that enhance both the surface design and the way light passes through your carved patterns.

The result is a functional, decorative piece that creates a warm and calming atmosphere in any space.

What to Expect

• A calm, focused, and creative studio experience
• Step-by-step guidance through shaping and carving techniques
• Exploration of light, pattern, and shadow
• A guided glazing session to enhance depth and contrast
• A finished lantern that is both decorative and functional

Workshop Format

Session 1 – Build (approx. 2 hours)
Create your lantern form using handbuilding techniques and prepare the surface for carving.

Session 2 – Carving (approx. 1.5–2 hours)
Carve patterns and textures that allow light to pass through, focusing on composition and spacing.

Session 3 – Glazing (approx. 1.5–2 hours)
Apply glaze to enhance carved details and complete your piece.

Pickup
Your finished lantern will be ready in approximately 2–3 weeks after firing.

Good to Know

• No experience needed — beginner-friendly with guidance
• Recommended for ages 12+
• All materials, tools, glazing, and kiln firing included
• LED candles are recommended (no open flame)
• Wear comfortable clothing (clay can get messy)
• Attendance at all three sessions is required

Small Group Experience

We keep our workshops small and personal (minimum 3 participants). If the minimum isn’t met, we’ll offer an easy reschedule or credit.
